Black History Month

Black History Month is a very significant month in our calendar. 2020 was a huge year for the progression of Black History. With the Black Lives Matter Protests, awareness of police brutality, voter recognition, and the election of the first female black VP, racial justice has become as prominent as ever. As we strive to end racism, it’s important to commemorate and respect Black History Month.

Black History Month was recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976. Before Black History Month was founded, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, organized a week to teach and celebrate Black contributions to society annually. Each year has a different theme for Black History Month; this year’s theme is,“ Black Family: Representation, Identity and Diversity.” During Black History Month, we celebrate/commemorate Blakc achievements and contributions to society. As we fight for racial justice and elimenatie racial discrimination, we must commemorate Black History

Why should we celebrate Black History Month? Throughout history, the contributions of Black Americans were looked over, downplayed, and unrepresented. We didn’t give Black Americans the credit to which they deserved. Black History Month aims to illuminate and commemorate the achievements of Black scientists, activists, artists, civil rights leaders, musicians, inventors and many more. By celebrating Black History Month, we hope that others can recognize and celebrate the impact that Black Americans had on shaping our culture and society.

Black History Month is an important part of the U.S government. With the inauguration of the first black woman VP, awareness to racial discrimination will certainly be prominent. With Black History month, we can celebrate our steps to racial justice. How do we celebrate Black History Month? The first thing you can do is educate yourself. This is by far, the most important step. By educating yourself, you can make yourself aware of police brutality and other protests. YOu can educate yourself by: visiting museums, researching online resources and events, and talking with others. Spread the word! By educating yourself, you embark on the first step to make a difference.

Black History Month is significant and crucial in our fight against racial discrimination. Spread the word, educate yourself and others, make a difference. Recognize the impact Black Americans had on our society and embrace their efforts. Commemorate their achievements and do your part in the fight against racial discrimination.
